The story behind it
The Silvretta is a mountain range in the Austrian Alps, with the majority of peaks above 3000 m and many Glaciers. Therefore it’s also called “Blue Silvretta”.
This porcelain piece is a homage to my great-grandmother Vinzenzia, who grew up in a little village in this mountain range and who climbed the highest peak in the area, which was quite an extraordinary achievement for a woman these days. She worked as a chef in a mountain hut where, more than 20 years later, Ernest Hemingway would party and play poker there.
What is porcelain?
Porcelain is a precious and delicate material that is totally different from clay: It is made from different materials, for example kaolin and petunse, and it was invented in China almost 2000 years ago, with the Chinese being the only ones to know how to make it for many centuries.
As opposed to clay, porcelain is white and translucent and it is, even if it seems more fragile than clay, harder, and more durable than clay.
